Microsoft 365 - Free Download for Students [Apple]

If you are a current student at Trinity, you can use and download Microsoft 365 for free.  

You will need an @mytwu.ca email address in order to login your copy of 365.

Download Microsoft 365 on the Web

1.  In your browser, navigate to the Microsoft website.
2.  Choose Download for macOS
   
   

3. Upon clicking on the button, your download should begin instantly.
   
   

4. Once the download is complete, find the file you just downloaded and open it to begin the installation.
   
   

5. Then press Continue until the installation begins.
   
   

Download Microsoft 365 from the App Store

1. Open the App Store app.
2. Browse or search for Microsoft 365
3. Click the Get button. If you see the Open or Update button instead of a Get button, you already bought or downloaded that app.
4. Wait for the Download

Announcement: Action Required for Mac Users as of July 13, 2026

Microsoft has implemented a change affecting Microsoft 365 Office desktop applications on macOS devices. Link to announcement below. As of July 13, 2026, Macs running unsupported versions of macOS or older Office applications may enter Reduced Functionality Mode.

When this occurs, you can:

• Open and view Office files
• Print Office files

However, you will not be able to:

• Create new documents
• Edit existing documents
• Save changes to files

This change was implemented by Microsoft and cannot be overridden by TWU.

How to Check If You're Device is Impacted

Step 1: Check Your macOS Version

1. Click the Apple Menu () in the upper-left corner.
2. Select About This Mac.
3. Review the macOS version displayed.

You must be running:

• macOS 12 Monterey or newer to continue using Microsoft 365 desktop applications with full functionality.

Step 2: Check Your Microsoft 365 Office Desktop App Version

1. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
2. Click the application name in the menu bar (ex. Word).
3. Select About Word

Microsoft requires Office version 16.83 or newer.

How to Update Microsoft 365 Apps

1. Open any Microsoft 365 Office Desktop application
2. Select Help → Check for Updates
3. Microsoft AutoUpdate will open
4. Click Update or Update All
5. Restart the Office applications once the update is complete

How to Update macOS

1. Open System Settings
2. Select General → Software Update
3. Install any available macOS updates
4. After updating macOS, update your Microsoft 365 Office desktop applications using the steps above

What If My Mac Cannot Be Updated?

Some older Macs cannot upgrade to macOS 12 or later. If your device cannot meet Microsoft's minimum requirements, your options are:

• Use Microsoft 365 on the web at Microsoft 365 Online
• Use another supported Mac or Windows device
• Consider replacing the device if Microsoft 365 desktop applications are required for your work or studies

Note: This change affects Mac, iPhone, and iPad Office applications only. Windows devices are not impacted.
