Introduction

Books in Moodle allow instructors to create multi-page resources with a book-like format and table of contents. Multimedia may be embedded and books may be printed entirely or by chapter.

Adding a Book in Moodle

To add a book in Moodle, make sure you have Edit Mode on (toggle top right Edit Mode button). Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

1. Click on "Add an activity or resource" at the bottom of any topic page:

2. Select the "Book" activity:

3. Add a name for the Book, then select "Save and display" to begin editing the book. 

4. Add Chapters and chapter contents as desired:

Editing Existing Books

To edit an existing book, ensure Edit Mode is on. Select the Book link in the Topic area, then toggle the top right "drawer" to edit individual chapters. Then click on the gearbox next to each chapter to edit it. 

You have the following options in the Table of Contents Drawer area: 

  • Move chapter up or down. 
  • Edit chapter
  • Delete Chapter
  • Hide/Show Chapter
  • Add a new chapter.
