Frequently Asked Questions about Completion Letters
If you are qualified, you can apply for an official school letter to prove you have officially completed your TWU program. You can request this letter on your Campus Portal. It can be found under "eRecords" and is called the "Verification of Graduation eLetter."
On the TWU official school letter “Verification of Graduation letter”, you can find your program completion date.
According to IRCC, the definition of the program completion date is not the issue date of the school letter, not the last class date, not the last exam date, not the date the final grade is posted, not the graduation ceremony date. For IRCC, the program completion date is determined by the school confirming that you have officially completed all course requirements to graduate.
TWU defines a student’s program completion date as their degree conferral date. This date is shown on the students’ transcript and diploma. This date cannot be changed. TWU’s current degree conferral dates are:
- May 31st,
- the first Saturday of November and
- December 31st.
TWU carefully issues official school documents based on academic procedures to verify students' academic records, and we do not customize official school documents to accommodate individual students’ immigration purposes. Please plan your study permit, work permit and employment arrangements based on the three dates above.
If you have questions about your program official completion date, you should discuss this with your program administrators. After you confirm the program completion date information on the TWU Verification of Graduation letter, if are unsure how you can use it regarding immigration concerns or IRCC regulations, submit a ticket to connect with TWU RCICs/RISIAs.
I have completed all of my courses - what are my next steps?
Once you have completed your last course, and have received all of your final grades, you need to complete the following steps:
- Student completes the notice of program completion form. This form lets the Office of the Registrar know that you have completed all course requirements and they will then begin the next step;
- Office of the Registrar completes the grad audit and confirms that all requirements to graduate have been successfully completed.
- Note that if all requirements are not completed, the Office of the Registrar will let you know in an email/ticket explaining which courses still need to be completed so that you can successfully graduate
- If all requirements are completed, the Office of the Registrar will proceed to the next step;
- Office of the Registrar adds a conferral date. TWU defines a student’s program completion date as their degree conferral date. This date is shown on the students’ transcript and diploma. This date cannot be changed. TWU’s current degree conferral dates are:
- May 31st,
- the first Saturday of November and
- December 31st.
- Once the Office of the Registrar adds a Conferral date, the student can request a completion letter (Verification of Graduation) through the Campus Portal
- When the Office of the Registrar receives the Verification of Graduation request, they will provide the Verification of Graduation (Completion Letter) to the student
My conferral date is missing and I can't request my letter.
Please review the steps above to ensure that everything has been completed. If you've successfully completed the above steps and your conferral date is missing, you can file a ticket with the Service Hub.
There were mistakes in my completion letter - the completion date is wrong. My last day of class was in June and I received my marks already.

My study permit is expiring on July 25 and my completion date is November 2 and I see all my grades on my final transcript - I need to apply for PGWP now before my Study permit expires. Please rush my letter ASAP
Unfortunately we are unable to rush or process letters any earlier than the completion date, even if your study permit is expiring. It is your responsibility to ensure that your study permit does not expire. Please keep an eye on your documentation expiry dates and ensure that you provide yourself enough time to apply for renewal without having to rush yourself or the school. My letter doesn't match all my other documentation (Last name, first name vs first name, last name) - will the IRCC still accept my application?
This will not be an issue for the IRCC - as mentioned earlier, the completion letter is only 1 of the many supporting documents that are required for your IRCC application. If you have concerns about your official school documents for your IRCC application, you can file a ticket to connect to TWU RCICs/RISIAs for assistance
Graduation completion letter does not show the program stream (Major/minor etc.)
As the transcript includes all of this information, it's not necessary to add to the completion letter.
