Please be advised that the MBA program does not have scheduled semester breaks during the program(e.g. no breaks in the summer semester) other than the Christmas holidays.
If you wish to take one semester or more time off during your MBA study, you can apply for Leave of Absence (hereinafter referred to as LOA) which is available for students in good academic standing. You must have at least an acceptable reason and a supporting document to apply for it.
The reasons can be:
- Bereavement Leave
- Indigenous Student Leave
- Medical Leave
- Parental Leave
- Personal/Caregiver Leave
- Professional, Military, or Political Service Leave
For details, please refer to: https://www.twu.ca/sites/default/files/2024-06/Graduate%20Studies%20Leave%20of%20Absence%20Policy.pdf
Please contact the MBA Coordinator through the MBA Helpdesk system. If the excuse(s) is sound and strong, the coordinator will help you with the necessary steps, including revising your study plan and send it together with the filled form and other supportive documents to the management for approval.
N.B.: Please email the form and all the supportive documents to your program coordinator. Please do NOT send them to the Office of Graduate Studies directly!
You can download the LOA application from the Forms & Procedures webpage.
When you fill out the form, please be aware that:
1. "Start Date of Leave" refers to the following date of your last due of the assignment of your current semester.
2. "Return Date" means the start date of the first class you attend when you are back to school.
3. "New Program Completion Date" -- Please find it in your revised study plan.
4. "Required attachments" -- Please choose both documents, i.e., the Reason for Request Memo and the Graduate Program Checklist (the revised Study Plan).
The application will NOT be processed, if
- The reason for the LOA is unacceptable.
- The applicant does not follow the policy and/or the standard steps.
- The application information is incorrect/incomplete.
P.S.:
1. Please take note that if you wish to take a break, you may not necessarily meet your status as a full-time student.
2. Even if with the university's approval of your LOA, it does not mean your future PGWP application will not be impacted. Please be reminded that TWU will not be responsible for any issues that arise regarding your visa issues and/or PGWP application.
