Unable to Register for courses
If you have followed the steps on our Register for Courses information page but there are still no checkboxes for you to select courses, there are a few reasons why you may be unable to register.
Holds and Warnings
- Registration Holds will prevent you from registering. These will be listed on your registration page. Please follow the How to Resolve instructions listed on the Holds and Warnings page to remove the hold and open up your registration.
- Registration Warnings do not affect registration ability.
- Please reach out to us on the helpdesk if you have any questions about your holds.
Returning Students that took a Semester break (excluding Summer)
- If you took a semester off from your studies (excluding Summer), you will need to RE-ENROLL before you can register again.
New Students
- Students that are new to TWU and registering for their first semester of courses are encouraged to work with their Enrolment Advisor for their course registration as they must approve your course selection. If you aren’t sure who your Advisor is, please reach out to our Admissions Department directly for assistance.
Academic Advisor Clearance
- Students that have less than 57 Semester Hours completed or currently in process require registration clearance in the system from their Academic Advisor prior to registering.
Learning Community One (LC1) Student
- LC1 students require registration assistance from one of our Academic Advisors that work out of the Advising Office in the Learning Commons. Please reach out to your LC1 Academic Advisor directly.
Non-Degree and Casual Studies Students
- Students need to work with an Enrolment Advisor in our Admissions Department to assist with their registration. Please reach out directly to our Admissions Department.
Registration Errors
When registering for courses, you may receive one of the Registration Errors listed here.
Course is Full or Waitlisted
- If a course is full when you are registering, you will be placed on the waitlist.
- Students may reach out to the professor of the course to request an authorization above course capacity. If the professor agrees, they will grant this authorization in the system.
- If space becomes available in a waitlisted course or the professor has authorized you in the system, you need to move your Waitlisted course to Current on your Registration Page in the Student Portal. Please check your Course Registration regularly to see if your waitlisted course can be moved to current.
- Unable to move to current? Reach out to us on the helpdesk and we can assist you.
Prerequisite Error
- The registration system will not allow a student to register for a course unless the prerequisite course requirements have been met in full or are in progress in the current semester.
- Please contact the professor to request a requisite authorization to override the prerequisite(s):
- If the professor consents, they will enter the authorization in the registration system. You will then be able to go into your registration portal and register for the course.
- If the professor does not consent to provide a requisite authorization, you will need to complete all prerequisites in full and wait until final grades are entered before you may register for the desired course.
Corequisite Error
- Some courses must be taken at the same time as another course (corequisite) and the system will not allow registration unless both courses are registered together.
- If you have already completed one of the required courses in a previous semester:
- Contact the professor to request a requisite authorization in the system for the course you are trying to register in.
- Once authorized, submit a helpdesk ticket to request us to manually register you in the one course.
- If one of your corequisite courses is full, our system will not allow you to waitlist in it with a corequisite. You will need to:
- Monitor the courses to see if spots become available to allow registration
- Reach out to the professor of the full course(s) to request an authorization above course capacity. Once authorized, you will then be able to register for both courses.
Time Conflict Error
- If you are receiving a time conflict error when attempting to register, you will need to reach out to the professor(s) to determine if they can accommodate the time conflict and provide a schedule conflict course authorization.
- Register in Course #1.
- Contact the professor of Course #2 to request course authorization. Explain that you are attempting to register in courses that have conflicting schedules, and that their authorization is required for you to register.
- Once you receive confirmation from the professor that authorization has been granted to you in the system, register in Course #2.
